Genevieve Marie Hulett went home to the Lord on March 7, 2016, the age of 97 at the Villa Care Center in Fort Dodge. Services will be Friday, March 11, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Austin Hill officiating. Visitation will be Thursday, March 10, 2016, 5pm to 7pm at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home. Burial will be in St. Olaf Cemetery.
Genevieve Marie Spirek Hulett was born December 18, 1918 in Fort Dodge to William and Johanna (Peterson) Spirek. She attended Fort Dodge High graduating in 1937. She then attended Tobin Business College. Genevieve was united marriage to Eugene Hulett on February 28, 1939 and they made their home in Fort Dodge. To this union four children were born; Beverly, Jeanne, Linda and John. Genevieve enjoyed many activities outside of the home including owning the Country Greenhouse for over 20 years and working at Walmart for 29 years in the Lawn and Garden area, retiring in 2015 at the age of 96. Her family and her flowers were her greatest love, always ensuring an extra plate was set at the table for any extra family or friend. Along with taking care of family, Genevieve enjoyed her gardens. She spent many hours each summer planting and growing all types of flowers to make her yard and neighbors' yards look and smell very beautiful. She was a member of the Fort Dodge Garden Club and First Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.
Those left to cherish her memory are her four children: Beverly Sheffield, Jeanne (Richard) Carley, Linda (Terry) Parker all of Fort Dodge and John (Debra) Hulett of Johnston, eleven grandchildren; Dena (Terry) Heim, Ammie (Julian) Lara and Mark (Terry) Balm all of Otho, Terri (Michael) Chmielewshi and Susan (Robert) Bristow of Altha, Florida, Tom (Keely) Anderson of Sioux City, Gary (Kendra) Anderson of Ketchikan, Alaska, Tammy (Michael) Becker and Darroll (Shelley) Parker both of Fort Dodge, Jason Hulett of Claridna, and Chelsea Hulett of Portland, Oregon. She was also blessed with 22 great grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 9 step great grandchildren, 9 step great great grandchildren and 2 step great great great grandchildren. Marlene Schultz and her family and Jim and Linda Pratt were special among the numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Eugene in 1995, her father-in-law and mother-in-law Ralph and Hazel Hulett, her parents, and son-in-law Clyde Sheffield.
Memorials are preferred to the discretion of the family.
