Gale W. McKinney, 100, of Greenfield, IA, and formerly of Creston, IA, died Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at the Greenfield Rehabilitation and Health Care Center. A private family graveside service will be held at the Hill of Zion Cemetery in Zion, IA. Memorials may be directed to the family.
Gale was born April 5, 1919, in Macksburg, Iowa, the son of Claude and Delpha (Mayne) McKinney. He attended Macksburg Methodist Church and graduated from Macksburg High School. On April 21, 1940 he was united in marriage to Mary Chaney at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Gale was a farmer in the Zion, Iowa area his entire life. Gale served as a member of the Zion and Orient-Macksburg School Boards for many years. He enjoyed working with wood and made many articles including canes, curios and other items.
Gale is survived by his wife of 79 years: Mary McKinney of Greenfield; children: Larry McKinney of Kent, Iowa, Gary McKinney & Marcia Moore of McKinney, Texas, Dan McKinney and wife Sharon of Orient, Iowa and Gale W. McKinney II and wife Audra of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Brother-in-Law: Ed Abbott of Afton, Iowa; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Patrick Edward McKinney; Granddaughter: Julie McKinney; and Great Grandson: Ivan McKinney.
