Fred Strong

Fred William Strong, 96, of Fort Dodge died Wednesday, August 25, 2004.

Funeral services will be at 1p.m. Saturday, August 28, 2004 at Bruce-Graham Funeral Home with Richard Miller officiating. Interment will be in the Union Cemetery, Humboldt. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday, August 27, 2004 at the funeral home.

Fred was born on July 29, 1908, the son of Douglas and Ellen (Olena) Strong in St. Anne, IL. He attended school in Ware, IA.

On March 7, 1936 he was united in marriage to Elnora Laurel. Fred was a hard worker and devoted many years to farming. He enjoyed fishing in his spare time and loved watching basketball. Even after retirement, Fred could be found shooting hoops and running foot races with his grandchildren. Later in life he relied on the radio and his imagination to create the wonderful game basketball. They were the highlight of his life. He loved to create stories to share and compose his own words to famous songs. Fred had a gift in the kitchen. He always made sure there were goodies, candy and ice cream for the grandchildren to enjoy when visiting. Fred was devoted to his faith and when his health would no longer allow him to attend services he would listen to the tapes often.

Fred was a loving man, and was considered grandpa to all. His memories will cherished and shared by his 1 son, John (Jo Anne) Strong of Moorland; 4 granddaughters, Michelle Frederickson, Roxanne (Elton) Hurtt, Trisha (Scott) Buffington and Rachel (Scott) Peterson; 6 great grandchildren, Shanda, Brandon, Chris, Kasondra, Zachery, Jacob and Brandi; 3 great -great grandchildren, Jordan, Dayshon, Trystin; nieces and nephews.

Fred is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elnora in 1977; 7 siblings, Dassie, Mabel, Bertha and John R., George, Edna and Beulah.
