Fred Jim Block

Fred “Jim” Block, age 85, of Humboldt, passed away on Thursday, June 24, 2021 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital in Humboldt. Jim's family will be holding Memorial Services on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at 11:am at the Rolfe Garfield Cemetery (south side of the road).

Fred James Block, the son of Fred and Aletha (Turley) Block, was born on November 28, 1935 in West Bend, Iowa. He graduated from Rolfe High School in 1954. After high school, Jim enlisted in the US Military Army in 1958 serving his country during the Vietnam War. On April 20, 1958, Jim was united in marriage to Janet Henry. The couple farmed and raised their two children, John and Jolene. During Jim's off-season months from farming, he worked as a mechanic for KC Nelson John Deere in Humboldt until his retirement in 1998.

Left to cherish Jims memory are his wife of 62 years, Janet of Humboldt; son, John (Katherine) Block of Pocahontas; daughter, Jolene (Jamie) Royster of Des Moines; twelve grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sister, Grace Tiernan of Fort Dodge and brother, Harold Block of Loveland, Colorado.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Aletha Block; sister, Louise King and brother, Carl Block.
