Floyd E. Ferrin
Floyd E. Ferrin, 88, of Moorland, died Saturday, October 28, 2006 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at the Fulton Lutheran Church, Roelyn. Officiating will be the Rev. Jim Davis. Interment will follow in the Fulton Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.
Floyd was born February 25, 1918 the son of Calvin and Ethel (Gates) Ferrin in Neosho, MO. On September 22, 1944 Floyd was united in marriage to Maxine Ellingson and to this union two children were born.
Floyd served his country in the United States Army in which he was awarded the Purple Heart and five Bronze Stars. Floyd served as a 1st Sergeant Company A 109th Medical Battalion 34th “Red Bull” Division. Upon his discharge Floyd joined the Iowa National Guard where he achieved the rank of Warrant Officer 4 prior to his retirement.
Floyd was an outdoor enthusiast who enjoyed fishing, hunting and working in his garden or taking care of the park. He loved kids and was a great mentor for many children in Moorland over the years. Floyd was also active in numerous church activities through out his life. Since 1982 Floyd had volunteered his time and talents to the Moorland Park Board. As an honor to Floyds years of service the City of Moorland renamed the park as Floyd Ferrin Park.
Those thankful for having shared in Floyds life include his daughter; Diane Ferrin, one sister; Helen Smith, two brothers; Glen (Margaret) Ferrin, and Bob Ferrin.
Mr. Ferrin was preceded in death by his parents; wife Maxine, one son; David, half sister; Josephine Hook, and a half brother; Russell Ferrin.
