Evonne Wilhelmina Chalgren, age 90, Humboldt Care Center North, and formerly of Fort Dodge, died Saturday, May 28, 2005 in Humboldt. She was born in Fort Dodge, on March 5, 1915, the daughter of John and Dorothy Bartels-Smith.

She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1934.

On June 22, 1937, she married John Chalgren in Fort Dodge. They were married for 65 years and John preceded her in death on December 22, 2002. They lived in Fort Dodge where they raised their 3 sons. Evonne entered the Humboldt Care Center in 1997 stricken with Alzheimer's. John later entered to help take care of her.

Evonne had many jobs and loved to talk about her sales positions at Younkers, Penney's, Diamonds, Robinson Brother's Fruit and Vegetable, and later with the Department of Agriculture.

John and Evonne traveled a great deal after John's retirement from the Fort Dodge Fire Department and they visited almost every State and several foreign countries. They also dabbled in antiques and sold at various flea markets around the State.

Evonne is survived by two sons, David (Diane) of Waunakee, WI and Larry (Ellen) of Greendale, WI; five grandchildren, Ian (Katie) of Poynette, WI, Eric (Shannon) of Robbinsdale, MN, Nathan of St. Petersburg, FL, Mark Howser of East Glacier, MT, and Robyn Campbell (Rick) of Grover, MO; three great-grandchildren, Grant and Zachary Campbell, and Aubrey Chalgren and a sister, Betty Smith of Manson, IA. She is also survived by one brother-in-law, Bob Chalgren of Clinton, IA; a daughter-in-law, Sally Dennis of Dublin, VA; and dear friend and cousin, Gerry Heise of Manson, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Steven; her husband, John; and a cousin, Denzel Heise.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 3, 2005 at the Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery, with the Rev. Allen Henderson of St. Paul's Lutheran Church officiating.
