Ethel Grace Silbaugh, 102, died Monday January 23, 2012 at the Tompkins Memorial Health Center.

         

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Churdan United Methodist Church.  Interment will follow in the Highland Cemetery, Churdan.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church. 

         

Ethel was born March 3, 1909  the daughter of Walter and Arletta (Baldridge) Silbaugh in the family home in southern Calhoun County.  In 1915 the family moved to Mower Co., MN near Grand Meadow.  In 1918 the family moved to the Churdan, Iowa area.

         

Ethel graduated from the Churdan High School.  She received her BA degree from Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) at Cedar Falls, IA.  Ethel worked for 43 years in the fields of education, as a teacher and an elementary principal.  She moved to Sac City, IA in 1946.  In 1992 she moved to Friendship Haven.

         

Ms. Silbaugh is survived by her Sister in Law, Joy Silbaugh, Brother in Law, Lucian Roberts and many nieces and nephews.

         

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, Pauline Berns, Irene Fackler, Mildred Roberts, Marie Hoskins Spears; brothers Everett, Claude and Richard.  She outlived all of her siblings.

         

Ethel enjoyed traveling.  She always was happy to be with her family.  Her favorite hobby many years ago was refinishing antique pieces of furniture.  Her favorite pastimes were reading and working puzzles.
