Ernest McBride
Ernest “Gene” McBride, 78, of Fort Dodge, died Friday December 22, 2006 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2006 at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home and Cremation Center with the Rev. Dennis Shepherd officiating. Interment will follow in the Fort Dodge Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors conducted by the VFW Post 1856. Visitation will be held from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Ernest was born September 2, 1928 the son of John Irvin and Essie (Smith) McBride in Polk Co., MO. He was raised and earned his education in Polk County as well. Soon after high school Ernest joined the United States Army Corps of Engineers serving his country in the Korean Conflict from 1950 until his honorable discharge in 1952.
On May 3, 1953 Ernest was united in marriage to Virginia Crouse at the Riverside United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge, IA. Ernests abilities to operate heavy equipment soon landed him a job in the USG quarry. Ernest retired after 26 years of dedication to USG.
Ernests passion was fishing and would have made any reason seem right to grab his fishing rod and tackle and go. He loved the outdoors and also enjoyed hunting and working in his garden.
Those thankful for having shared in Ernests life include his wife of 53 years; Virginia, two sons; Mickey Irvin and his wife Janet McBride of Fort Dodge, Larry Eugene and his wife Lynn McBride of Fort Dodge, two sisters; Martha Schaad of Charles Town, West Virginia, Helen Hensley of Springfield, MO, one brother; Don McBride of Goodman, MO, four grandchildren; Merissa (Bruce) Ewing, Amie (Chase) Harrison, Haley (John) Burns, Katie McBride, and three great-grandchildren; Austin, Makenzie, and Kierstan.
Mr. McBride was preceded in death by his parents, one sister; Jessie Wheeler, and six brothers; Albert, Ora, Elmer, Ebb, Dale, and Joe McBride.
