Erika E. Messerly

Erika E. Messerly, 94, of Fort Dodge, died Monday, March 14, 2011 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Holstead officiating.  Interment will follow in the Oakland Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Erika was born January 22, 1917 the daughter of Karl and Hildur (Carlson) Helgren in Fort Dodge, Iowa. 

Over the years Erika worked as a housekeeper for different places as well as for individual families.  She enjoyed volunteering anywhere and everywhere she could.  Church activities and foster grand parenting were the major enjoyments and life fulfilling treasures to Erika.  She also looked forward to just sitting and playing the piano.  Erika was a member of the West Side Church of Christ.

Those thankful for having shared in Erikas life include her children, Sherril (Thomas) Brown of Fort Dodge, IA, Gloria Mastrangelo of Phoenix, AZ, Dennis (Syl) Messerly of Fort Dodge, IA, eleven grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

Erika was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Ruth Helgren and a great grandson.
