Elvin E. Anderson, 99, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday December 13, 2009 at the Tompkins Memorial Health Center.Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday December 17, 2009 at the Community of Christ in Coalville. Interment will follow in the North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home.Elvin was born April 18, 1910 the son of Francis A. and Sarah (Jordison) Anderson in Coalville, Iowa. Elvin attended school in Coalville and in 1928 went to work at the Fort Dodge Wholesale Grocery as a salesman until his enlistment into the United States Army in 1942. He served his country in the European and Pacific Theatres achieving the rank of Tech. Sergeant in the Transportation Corp. Elvin served in England, Ireland, and Scotland and was then transferred to New Guinea and Okinawa, Japan. Upon his return home from the service in 1945 Elvin went to work for M and Jr. Hakes Wholesale Grocery. In 1953 He began operating Anderson Standard at 706 2nd Ave. South and did so until his retirement in 1977. Elvin moved to Friendship Haven in August of 1998.Elvin was the pastor for many years at the Community of Christ Church in Coalville and was a lifetime member of the RLDS Church.Those thankful for having shared in Elvins life include his sister Frances (Orville) Cole of Fort Dodge, one niece Kay (Terry) Bretthauer of Des Moines, IA, nephews: Gary (Becky) Anderson of Waterloo, IA, Stephan (Julie) Anderson of Independence, MO, Charles (Darlene) Jones of Sioux Falls, SD, Larry (Jody) Jones of West Liberty, IA and Robert (Mary) Jones of Fort Dodge, IA.Mr. Anderson was preceded in death by his parents, sister; Vera Jones, brother; Amos Anderson, niece Janice Fenn nephew Richard Jones.
