Elizabeth Hanson

Funeral services for Elizabeth Hanson, 97, of Fort Dodge will be Friday January 22, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge with Rev. David Grindberg officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery.

Elizabeth Schick Hanson was born April 29, 1918, in Fort Collins, Colorado. Her parents were Elizabeth (Frohm) and Gottfried Schick. At a young age her family moved to the Scottsbluff, Nebraska area where she grew up. In 1942, Elizabeth made a trip to San Francisco, California, to visit her brothers David and Irvin Schick who were stationed there in the Coastal Artillery during World War II. She met Gerald Hanson also stationed there. They were married April 17, 1944, in Fort Dodge where they made their home. They were married for almost 64 years before Gerald passed away in 2008. Their children were son Gerald and daughter Ruth.

Elizabeth was active at St. Olaf Lutheran Church as a long-time Sunday School teacher and circle chairman for over twenty years. She was a wonderful cook, an amazing gardener, and a devoted Grandma.

Elizabeth Hanson died Wednesday, January 13, 2016, at the Madrid Home, Madrid, Iowa.

Survivors include her son Gerald (Dee) Hanson of Scottsdale, AZ and daughter Ruth (Arlyn) Boelman of Johnston, IA. Her five grandchildren are Jennifer (Michel) Rozenfeld, Daniel (Lindsey) Boelman, Steven (Kari) Hanson, Mark (Corlet) Boelman, and Elizabeth (Nathan) Wall. Her ten great-grandchildren are Kyle Boelman, Serenity Reynolds, Asa Rozenfeld, Edgar Rozenfeld, Christopher Wall, Benjamin Wall, Henry Wall, Trevor Boles, Ashley Boelman and Elyse Boelman.

She was preceded in death by husband Gerald, her brothers Conrad, Scotty, Manuel, David, Irvin, and one sister Mollie.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Radio Broadcast at St. Olaf Lutheran Church.
