Eleanor Sheker Phillips

Eleanor June Sheker Phillips, 88, of Fort Dodge died Friday December 12, 2008 at the Trinity Regional Medical Center.             Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday December 15, 2008 at the Bruce-Graham Funeral Home with the Rev. Karen Berg officiating.  Interment will follow in the Elkhorn Township Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.             Memorials may be left to the American Cancer Society or the Riverside United Methodist Church.             Eleanor Kaplan was born June 15, 1920 in Fulton Township to James and Mamie (Fiala) Kaplan.  She received her education from the Moorland Consolidated School, graduating in 1937.             In 1939 Eleanor attended the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa.             On July 6, 1940 Eleanor was united in marriage to Richard Sheker.  To this union three children were born; Dennis, Douglas and Diane.  Richard died October 8, 1967.             In 1970 Eleanor graduated from the Des Moines School of Practical Nursing.  She was employed at the Trinity Regional Hospital for 16 years.  In April of 1976 she was united in marriage to Dwight Phillips and the couple moved to Gowrie where she worked in private homes.             Eleanor was a member of the Riverside United Methodist Church, past member of the Westside Betterment Group and the Czech-Heritage Group.             Those thankful for having shared in Eleanors life include her son Douglas (Frances) Sheker of Rockford, IL, one sister; Barbara Christopher of Fort Dodge, four grandchildren; Kevin Sheker, Juli Sheker MacDonald, Dawnita Hoffman Anderson, Darci Hoffman Kiner, five great grandchildren, and a beloved nephew and several nieces.             Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two children; Dennis and Diane, one sister; Alvina Sheker, three brothers; Ernest Kaplan, Earl Kaplan and Clark Kaplan,              Those wishing to send an online greeting or condolence may do so by going to www.brucesfuneralhome.com
