Eddie Ray Brookshire

September 10, 1955 — September 30, 2022

Fort Dodge

Eddie Ray Brookshire, 67, of Fort Dodge, passed away Friday, September 30, at Trinity Regional Medical Center surrounded by the people he loved the most.   There are no services planned and memorials may be directed to the family.

Eddie Ray was born September 10, 1955 to Roy and Johnnie Mae (Seals) Brookshire in Meridian, Mississippi.  He graduated Fort Dodge Senior High in 1974.  After high school Eddie Ray worked at Hormel.  He then moved to California and worked in the lumber industry as a fork lift operator.  While in California he would meet his best friend and longtime companion Kimberly Drysdale.  They made their home in California for 28 years.  He also worked in construction and obtained his CDL becoming a professional driver until his retirement.

Eddie Ray would often tell people that he was a “pilot.”  In his free time, he loved to fly model airplanes and helicopters.  No one ever questioned him on what type of aircraft he actually flew.    When he wasn’t flying Eddie Ray loved fast cars and motorcycles like his Camaro, Chevelle and Kawasaki 1000.  He also had a van that he was very proud of.  Boxing and working out were favorite past times of his when he was younger.  Playing the drums was also a past time he enjoyed.  Kimberly turned him on to football and he became an Indianapolis Colts fan.  Animals were another love of his especially his pit bull Jade.

Eddie Ray is preceded in death by his parents; sisters Carolyn Naylor, Sylvia Brookshire, and Grady Nell Brookshire; and brother Herbert Ford.  Left to cherish his memory are his best friend and longtime companion Kimberly Drysdale of Illinois; sister Deborah Brookshire of Fort Dodge; brothers Willie Ford of New Jersey and Leroy Brookshire of Mississippi; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
