Earl L Olson

Memorial service for Earl L. Olson 80 of Fort Dodge, Iowa will be Saturday, NOVEMBER 11, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge with Rev. Jim Laupp officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Fort Dodge V.F.W. Post 1856 and the Iowa Army National Guard. He died October 20, 2017 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge.

Earl Lee Olson was born October 28, 1936 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Carl and Julia (Leiss) Olson. He grew up in Fort Dodge and attended Fort Dodge Senior High. He served in the Untied State Army from 1954 through 1957. Earl was united in marriage to Avon Haines on August 24, 1958. The couple settled in Fort Dodge. Earl drove truck his entire working life, first at Umthun Trucking then Decker Trucking and finally retiring from McGough Construction. Earl was a member of the Fort Dodge V.F.W. He enjoyed reading western novels and bird watching.

He is survived by his children; Earl Olson Jr of Fort Dodge, Julie (Russ) Sladky of Cedar Creek, NE and Colleen Holcombe of Fort Dodge, four grandchildren, Leann, Allison, Lane and Madison, one great grandson Cecil. He is also survived by his siblings; Bertha, Phyllis, Jan and Marilyn. Earl was preceded in death by his parents, wife Avon, daughter Avon and son David.
