Douglas Ritchie DeMilo

September 30, 1954 — June 27, 2019

Douglas R. DeMilo, 64, of Lytton, IA, died Thursday, June 27, 2019, at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center following a long fought battle with Cancer. Memorial services will be held at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, July 3, 2019, at Emanuel-St. John Lutheran Church, 660 Railway Street – Lytton, with Rev. Ben Worley officiating. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Douglas Ritchie DeMilo was born September 30, 1954, in Mountain View, AR, the son of Lawrence and Bonnie (Ritchie) DeMilo. He grew up in North Richland Hills, TX and attended Catholic school in Fort Worth and Dallas, TX. He then continued his education at Dallas Community College in Dallas. Doug enjoyed spending time with family, tinkering with computers and other electronics, piano, listening/writing music, driving his Miata, cooking, painting, photography/editing and always following through on a dare. He also enjoyed counseling those in need and was the founder of Advocacy Inc. - a non profit organization for child slavery. He also wrote online articles about Asperger's.

Doug had a kind heart, a wicked sense of humor and a great laugh. He was fiercely loyal to family and friends. He loved animals and playing Santa Claus for the community children.

On May 11, 2018, Doug was united in marriage to Susan Paul in Fort Dodge. He was a beloved husband, partner in crimes of fun and best friend. His nicknames included “Guido”, “Pops” (given by Stephanie) and “Lenny” (given by Brian). He was Sue's comforter and defender and always found a way to cheer her up when she was down. He treated his wife like a queen and loved her as she was while accepting her children as his own. He was the wind beneath her wings.

Doug is survived by his wife: Sue DeMilo of Lytton; son: Daniel; step-children: Stephanie (Bryce), Brian, Joseph, Cory and Amber; sister: Debbie Afzali of Fort Worth, TX; and step-mother: Sharon DeMilo of Pennsylvania. Sleep well sweet man, knowing that your love was returned by many.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Doug's last request was to say, he went to the grave sliding in sideways going “Whee, what a ride!”
