Dean Nichols

Dean “Nick the Greek” Nichols, 87 of Vincent passed away at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home in Fort Dodge on March 14, 2017. Family and friends are welcome to his graveside services on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 2:00 pm. at the Newark Township Cemetery near Vincent, Iowa followed by refreshments at the Vincent Community Center.

Dean Nichols was born May 16, 1929 to Frank and Gladys (Conely) Nichols in Vincent, IA. Dean started working young as a farm hand, then on to many different types of work, driving semi, a diesel mechanic, semi owner-operator, and a road construction worker. Even though he was retired, Dean had to keep busy so it was back to work on a farm, to being a bartender, to his last job, a camp host at Gotch Park for 12 years. Dean enjoyed being the camp host, he loved the people and the outdoors.

Dean married Theresa Case on March 5, 1948. To this union 6 children were born, Sue, Marian,

Dawn, Barbara, Gale and Michael. They later divorced. Dean married Charlotte Farrell October 1967 and they later divorced.

Dean is survived by his children; Sue Nichols of Eagle Grove, Marian Strayer of Klemme, Barbara (Willis) Jergenson of Kanawha, Gale (Larry) Draves of Clarion, Michael Nichols of Savannah, GA, and son-in-law Clem Steil of Eagle Grove, 11 grandchildren; Wayne Strayer, Chris (Dean) Schultz, Anna (Rodney) Foster, Loren (Alisha) Steil, Mike (Annie) Steil, Brian Steil (friend Amber), Tonya Jergenson, Chad (Tori) Jergenson, Trisha (Dustin) Todd, Jean Sobek, and Marcia (Travis) Greco, 28 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren; Rick (Amie) Farrell, Mark (Heather) Farrell and Ryan (Amy) Farrell. He is also survived by his sister, Leila Nichols of Webster City , sister-in-law Millie Nichols of Morris, IL and special friends Mark and Diane Carter.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Dawn Ann Steil, granddaughter Deanne (Dan) Johnson and great grandson Andrew Johnson, son-in-law Nathan Strayer and siblings, Robert Nichols, Delbert Nichols and Eva Mae Durkee.

Memorials will be given to the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home and the Vincent Fire Department
