Dale Olson

Dale Olson died on May 18, 2009 at the Humboldt Care Center North, Humboldt, IA.

Dale was born to Joseph and Olga (Brodale) Olson on March 6, 1926 in his parents farm home near Humboldt, IA. He was educated in the Humboldt County country schools, attended Humboldt High School until he enlisted in the United States Army in the fall of 1944 during WWII. He participated in Okinawa where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. Following his honorable discharge he returned to the farm home of his parents. He was employed by the Tobin Packing Company in Fort Dodge, IA. In 1948 he married Bonnie Rose Ramler of Fort Dodge, IA. They lived on a farm near Hardy, IA where he was employed as a hired man for the late Chris Nielsen until they moved to a farm near Vincent, IA, where Dale rented a farm. Later they farmed near Badger. In 1954 they moved to the home farm of Dales parents, where he and Bonnie resided the rest of their lives.

Dale is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Bonnie, their children, Lamont Olson and wife Vicki of Indianola, IA, Kimbrent Olson and wife Juli of Owens Cross Roads, AL, Holly (Olson) Hupfer of Greeley, CO, Lance Olson and wife Paula of rural Humboldt, and Melody (Olson) and husband, Todd Gilson of Cave Creek, AZ. Twelve grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren survive. Also, sister and brother-in-law Betty (Ramler) and Dick Sternitzke of Iowa City, IA, brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Lorraine (Trost) Ramler of Morton, IL, sister and brother-in-law Belva (Ramler) and Dennis Henrickson of Estherville, IA, survive as do many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Other than his family, Dales first and foremost love was his farm and farming operations. He was a life long member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Humboldt, IA. In years past he served on the board of the Farmers Coop Elevator in Humboldt. Until his illness incapacitated him, he enjoyed watching the football and basketball Hawkeyes and Cyclones teams in action on TV. He kept the bird feeders and birdbaths filled. Most of all, he had much love and concern for his family.

There will be no visitation. Dales wish to be cremated will be honored by his family. Everyone is invited to attend a graveside service with Pastor Matthew Manz presiding and with full military rites, to be held on May 29 at 10 a.m. in the Our Saviours Lutheran Corinth Township Cemetery in rural Humboldt County a short distance from his farm home. Following the graveside service, a memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. at Our Saviours Lutheran Church with Pastor Manz and Pastor Gene Broughton presiding.
