Carolyn “Jo” Johnson, 81, of Fort Dodge, IA, died Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, May 19, 2023, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 400 S. 13th Street, with Rev. Kendall Meyer officiating. Interment will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM - 8:00 PM on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home, 923 1st Avenue South. Memorials may be directed to the family. Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.
Carolyn JoAnn was born April 29, 1941, in Storm Lake, IA, the daughter of Reynold E. and Evelyn M. (Coats) Nordstrom. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High. On October 18, 1958, she was united in marriage to Jacob L. Johnson at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Jo worked as a lunch lady for the Fort Dodge School System for 25 years until her retirement in 2008. Jo loved her family very much and was happiest when she had someone to care for. Her daughters, grandchildren, and siblings meant the world to her and she loved spending time with them. Her yard and home were her pride and joy. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.
Jo is survived by 2 children: Paula Bussolari and husband James of Sandwich, MA, and Laura Crowl and special friend Terry Cook of Fort Dodge; 5 grandchildren: Katie Jergens of Lynn, MA, Matthew Jergens of Chicago, IL, Ryan Crowl and wife Jennifer of Portland, OR, Stefan Crowl of Iowa City, IA and Ian Crowl of Fort Dodge; 3 great-grandchildren: Jacob, Brooke, and Mia; 3 siblings: Mary Freese of Albuquerque, NM, John Nordstrom and wife Barbara of Texas, and Ron Nordstrom and wife Marnell of Fort Dodge; and sister-in-law: Earlene Nordstrom of Fort Dodge. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1998; daughter: Geraldine Kay Johnson; 5 siblings: Geraldine Nordstrom, Donald Nordstrom, Jackie Appleton and husband Al, Patricia Sober, and Evelyn Jones and husband Jack; and brother-in-law: Jim Freese; and nephews: John Nordstrom and Don Appleton.
