Funeral services for Bruce E. Kahler will be Monday, January 29, 2018 at 11:00 at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Fort Dodge with Pastor Joey Feldmann officiating. Visitation will be Sunday 4pm to 7pm at the Historic Bruce Funeral Home in Fort Dodge. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery with full military rites by the United States Navy and the Fort Dodge V.F.W. Post 1856.
Bruce Emmett Kahler was born June 27, 1939 in Fort Dodge, IA to Emmett and Helen (Adamson) Kahler. He grew up in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1957. Bruce served in the United States Navy for four years aboard the USS Edson. After returning from his service, he settled in Fort Dodge and was united in marriage to Earlita Bowling on June 17, 1967. Bruce was employed at Standard Engineering and Rosedale Creamery until they closed. He then worked at Heartland Communications and Ferguson Manufacturing until retirement. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ. Bruce enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He collected arrowheads and loved watching Western movies. Bruce traveled many places, but was most proud of his trip to revisit the USS Edson DD946 in Bay City, Michigan, 52 years after his honorable discharge. If you ever met Bruce, you know he never met a stranger.
On January 24, 2018 Bruce died at his home in Fort Dodge. He is survived by his wife Earlita, son Jason (Denise) Kahler, daughter Megan Kahler and two grandchildren, Carson and Joscelyn. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Judy Kahler, brother-in-law Mike (Carol) Bowling and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Terry.
