Ara Ervine Winkler was born June 30, 1934 in Roswell, New Mexico to Edward and Frankie (Peter) Winkler. He grew up in the Roswell area and attended Roswell schools. After school he helped with the family owned grocery store and was a ranch hand. Ara served as a Medic in the United States Army. While in the service, Ara met his future wife Judith Drow, and they were united in marriage on January 5, 1963 in Detroit, Michigan. The couple traveled across the country while Ara continued serving in the Army. After his twenty years of service, the family returned to Roswell, New Mexico. Ara enjoyed welding, tree trimming and drove grain truck. Ara was a handyman and loved to tinker on automobiles and could fix anything. In 2006 they moved to Fort Dodge where they have lived since.
Ara Ervine Winkler died at his home on Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the age of 82 years. He is survived by his wife Judith Winkler of Fort Dodge, his children; Judi Drow of Fort Dodge, Robert Winkler of Fort Dodge, Lawrence Winkler of Cedar Falls, Daniel Winkler of Fort Dodge, Stacy (Taryn) Winkler of Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas and Tracy ( Natalie) Winkler of Duncombe, 14 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his twin brother Ira (Leona) Winkler, of Roswell, NM.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters; Joyce and Edna and two brothers; Jake and Bob.
