Alvin Ludwig Isakson, 95, of Duncombe, Iowa passed away peacefully in Mustang, OK surrounded by his family on July 29, 2015. Funeral services will be held August 5th, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Washington Lutheran Church, Duncombe, IA with Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Lunch will be served at the church with burial following at the McGuire Bend Cemetery.
Alvin was born October 19, 1919 on a farm near Corsica, South Dakota to John and Hellen(Vevik) Isakson. He attended country school in Corsica, SD and graduated from high school in Stickney, SD in 1940. He then moved to Los Angles, CA and completed a course in Aircraft Maintenance and began working for Lockheed Aircraft building P-38s for the war effort. Alvin married Genevieve A. Suer on February 26, 1944 in Pasadena, CA. He enlisted in the United States Army and served in Italy with the 10th Mountain Division, 5th Army. After Alvin s discharge from the Army in 1946 they moved to South Dakota and farmed with his family. In 1951 the family moved to Duncombe, Iowa, where they resided and farmed for 60 years. He also worked for Felco/Land O' Lakes. Alvin taught Sunday school, served on the board of worship, was a Trustee and held other offices at Washington Lutheran Church. He was a 4H Leader, served on the Webster County Extension Board, Pleasant Valley Township Board and Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his daughter Kathryn and her husband Jim Spurlin of Mustang, OK and son Ronald Isakson of Illinois, brother Joe Isakson, Sioux Falls, 9 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve, his parents and 14 bothers and sisters.
