Thomas "Tod" L. Smith

Thomas L. Smith, 91, of Humboldt, Iowa passed away on July 3, 2023 at the Methodist Hospital in Des Moines surrounded by his family.   Please join us in a celebration of Tod’s life on Monday, July 10th, 2023 held at River Valley Orchard & Winery 10am-1pm, 1645 220th St Humboldt, IA 50548.  Arrangements are with Historic Bruce Funeral Home of Fort Dodge.

Thomas, fondly known as Tod, was born to Thomas and Dorothy Smith on August 17,1931 in Nashua, Iowa.  Tod graduated from Nashua High School in 1950. Tod married Letha Cokley in 1951 and they raised 6 children while farming in Nashua, Iowa.  Tod & Letha also owned Cedar Restaurant in Nashua before moving to Dakota City, Iowa where they took ownership of Val’s Café, later renaming it Tod’s Café.  During retirement they moved to Florida for 5 years before returning to Dakota City.

Tod is survived by his children Larry and (Linda) Smith, Pleasant Hill, IA; Dennis and (Vicky) Smith, Dakota City, IA; Cathy Gaydos, Phoenix, AZ; Ricky Smith, Fort Dodge, IA; 14 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.  Tod was preceded in death by his wife, Letha; son, Thomas Smith; daughter and son-in-law Shelly and Jerry Ehrhardt; and great granddaughter, Morgan Raether.
